Even though you dont have a promotion for the trip, its a deal at $2 for each adult. And if youre maybe not enthusiastic about the trip but just-in the wine tasting, the wine tasting is free-to anybody 21 years of age or older.
We decided to take the trip and then taste a few of the wines. The trip began in-the front-of the schoolhouse where our guide told us the building was used as a schoolhouse for a century, from 1868 to 1968. At one stage, the college had 60 students in 8 grades with only 2 teachers. The building was acquired and turned into a vineyard in 1974.
After being given some record on the building, we were taken to the basement of the building, which is where your wine is made. We saw how the wine was bottled, the vats it is made in, combined with drums it's located in for aging. Along the way we learned how a fruit juice the winery uses gets become wine. Then we headed right back upstairs for the wine bar to start sampling the wines.
With more than 50 wines being made by the winery, it was difficult deciding which ones to use but we managed. The winery produces many good fresh fruit wines from apple to rim to plum to cranberry to peach to blood, along with their signature cherry wine which can be built with Door County cherries. The fruits for some of the other wines originate from other sites, including California, but all the wine is made in the Door County facility.
The top selling wines at-the Door County winery are the Strawberry Zinfandel, Blackberry Merlot, and Razzle Dazzle Raspberry. Discover more on instagram.com by visiting our ideal use with. Our favorites were the Cranberry, Blackberry, and Sparkling Razzle Dazzle Raspberry. Other wines we loved involved the Port Reserve, a sweet desert wine; Sweet Cherry, a sweet wine; White Xmas, one of the winerys trip wines; the White Zinfandel, one of the winerys trademark series wines; and Cranbernet, a wine made using a mixture of cranberry and grape juices.
The winery now offers several non-wine products including cherry juice, shining juices, wine jellies, gourmet mustards, and Door Peninsula Wine Cheese Spread which we thought was so great that we bought two containers to take home.
The large shopping area inside the winery also has hundreds of other things available including wine cabinets, wine glasses, premium meals, present baskets, and wine butlers.
In addition to taking home several of the cheese spread; we acquired a mixed case of wine to take with us. And we didnt break the bank purchasing the wine. The wines at the vineyard are a good value. The wines start at around $8 for the good fresh fruit wines into a little under $30 for a few of the trademark collection wines.
